Charming casual elegance awaits nearby the sea in the enchanting grandeur of our 1880s estate B&B, a relaxing romantic bed and breakfast getaway escape located on scenic coastal Route 1A, just beyond the York Beach Lobster Cove bend.

Whether a gateway for exploring New England’s vibrant fall foliage, blossoming spring, wintry wonderlands, or sandy summer beaches, we invite you to share quintessential charm throughout the seasons at the Inn at Tanglewood Hall.

Unwind and untangle.  Enjoy bold ocean views along the harbor Cliff Path lined with wild rugosa roses, then traverse York River's  Fisherman's Walk to the Wiggly Bridge.  Stroll along quiet tree-lined streets to the Harbor Beach or explore Long Sands and Short Sands Beach and the famed picturesque Nubble Lighthouse on Cape Neddick nearby. Later in the evening, rest on our wide front veranda in a porch rocker amidst the twinkling fairy lights, cuddle up in the hammock built for two or next to a crackling fireplace, slip into sumptuous soothing sheets beneath cozy down blankets, then indulge in a scrumptious breakfast of morning delights, wrapped in the peaceful tranquility of the seacoast.
Once a York Historical Society Decorator Show House and home to Chicago lumber baron and Hamilton College trustee, Alexander Coburn Soper and his wife Mollie Eliza Pope for its first fifty years, The Inn at Tanglewood Hall is a casually elegant summer estate of yesteryear, nestled along the beautiful coastline of southern Maine. Set amidst lush woodlands, colorful gardens, and whimsical fountains, it offers a quiet oasis in the heart of quaint York Harbor. The inn features rooms that have been custom decorated, individually designed, and furnished with luxurious high-end pima cotton sheets, fluffy down blankets, and eurofeather pillows, indeed with your ultimate comfort in mind.
Relax in the reflective timeless ambiance of a
gone-bye era with today’s amenities. Our guest rooms are large and spacious with completely renovated private baths, hairdryers, and naturally scented glycerine soaps. Each room is air-conditioned, and some offer fireplaces, private porches or sitting rooms, refrigerators, and ceiling fans. In-room Widescreen LCD Cable TVs with DVD Players and free Wireless High Speed Internet access is available for those who wish to spend time in more modern modes.
Enjoy a glass of wine or breakfast on our gracious wraparound veranda facing the gardens and woodlands surrounded by birds chirping and the scent of ocean sea breezes. Inside, an airy sky blue parlor is adjoined to the cheerful morning room and the sun-drenched dining room, all with fireplaces. A large foyer and a hideaway room accent the antique and art-filled downstairs with a grand staircase leading to intimate guest rooms on the mezzanine and second floor.
The ocean is just a short walk away. Beaches, fishing villages, and rocky coastlines begin here and extend northward. A cliff path around the corner offers refreshing ocean views of Maine's rugged coast and lobster boats and sloops sailing in and out of the harbor. For an ideal relaxing weekend getaway, romantic honeymoon, anniversary or birthday celebration, wedding guest retreat, or simply a night away from business humdrum, we welcome you to savor with generations past, the serendipity and splendor of the Inn at Tanglewood Hall.
